HISTORY

The International Pianist Competition “Palma d’Oro”- Finale Ligure, was born in 1974 from an idea by Aloise Vecchiato and Marco Bartolomeo and desired by the municipality of Finale Ligure. The competition this year, 2023, will be its 49th Edition, calling young pianists from all around the world to Finale Ligure.

The competition is organized by the Association of Musical Culture “Palma d’Oro” and is supported by the municipality of Finale ligure and the De Mari Foundation. The association which is under the sponsorship of the Ligurian region collaborates in the organization of the concerts and of Donzdorf Prize with the city of Donzdorf and since 2015 it has been associated to Alink-Argerich Foundation.

The Association of Musical Culture “Palma d’Oro” promotes live performances, the listening and the circulation of the music. It invites well-known international concert players to hold concerts in and around Finale Ligure, providing for the namesake piano competition to take place. It takes care of the organization of the concerts and the competition rehearsals which are open to the public. In 2014, apart from the traditional events, an exhibition of concert performers started performing in the “pianoforte all’aperto”.

The concerts take place in historical and cultural places of interest of which could be Basilicas, church kiosks and squares, discovering the territory of Finale Ligure in and of the province of Savona, in all its architectural, artistic and social aspects. The privileged opening evening of the concerts will take place in the Basilica of “San Giovanni Battista” in Finalmarina and in ”San Biagio” in Finalborgo. The open concerts will take place in Finalborgo, Finalmarina, Finalpia and Varigotti. The rehearsals open to the public will take place in the Auditorium of Santa Caterina in Finalborgo.
